2021 was heavily impacted by the still ongoing global pandemic, but films stopped being delayed, which contributed to a better cinema year overall. Just like in every year, good movies are everywhere as long as viewers know where to look, as well as give a chance for an unconvincing premise to blow you away. This time, blockbusters and/or franchise-related installments were back in strong fashion, but indie films continued to deliver surprising, thought-provoking, impactful stories, reaching more and more viewers as time goes by.

2020 is undoubtedly one of the worst years ever for cinema. The global pandemic negatively impacted films worldwide, and the "home viewing vs. theater experience" discourse never got so many people actually debating it. Nevertheless, this year still offered us plenty of great movies. It's just a matter of knowing where to look and giving a chance for a not-that-captivating premise to blow you away. Obviously, blockbusters and/or franchise-related installments are inevitably fewer than in previous years, but indie films surpassed all obstacles, managing to get to thousands of homes throughout the last twelve months.
