My 15 Favorite Movies of 2023

My 15 Favorite Movies of 2023

Ratings are the least relevant detail when making my list. Instead, I rely on several other criteria when my heart can’t decide between a few movies: replay value, overall enjoyment, memorability… The answer to "how much do I want to watch this film again?" is, most of the time, the deciding factor when I can't find any other aspect to help me make a final decision. So, don't be surprised if you see a higher-rated movie below a lower-rated one. It's MY list, after all. MY personal preferences concerning genre, entertainment, and quality. My #1 film doesn't necessarily need to be the absolute best movie of the year. It can simply be special to me, and that reason alone is enough to warrant a higher spot on my list than other admittedly "better films."

My 15 Favorite Movies of 2022

My 15 Favorite Movies of 2022

2022 has been one of the best years in recent memory. A year absolutely packed with massive surprises as well as the incredibly impactful return of pure blockbuster entertainment. From completely original, uniquely creative stories to successful long-due continuations of beloved films, this is undoubtedly the best year of the new decade - to the point of making me increase the usual 10 spots to 15. Disappointments are always around the corner, but I couldn’t be happier to write that there weren’t that many in the past twelve months - I actually still enjoyed most of my personal letdowns. This was also the year when Sight & Sound magazine released their once-a-decade Greatest Films of All-Time list, which reminded everyone why Top10s and the like are so subjective. Every viewer has their own genre preferences, and the theater experience is getting increasingly important in this type of comparative post…

Top10: Best Movies of 2021

Top10: Best Movies of 2021

2021 was heavily impacted by the still ongoing global pandemic, but films stopped being delayed, which contributed to a better cinema year overall. Just like in every year, good movies are everywhere as long as viewers know where to look, as well as give a chance for an unconvincing premise to blow you away. This time, blockbusters and/or franchise-related installments were back in strong fashion, but indie films continued to deliver surprising, thought-provoking, impactful stories, reaching more and more viewers as time goes by.

93rd Academy Awards - Predictions

93rd Academy Awards - Predictions

The 93rd Academy Awards are right around the corner, and it’s time to share my predictions! I’ve been very lucky in the last few years, so let’s hope I get all of the categories right in 2021 (I’ll definitely won’t). This year, there are only 23 categories since Sound Editing and Sound Mixing were joined together, and there are many races completely open!

I will share two types of predictions: one with the nominee that WILL WIN (also the one that counts to the ballot) and another with the nominee that SHOULD WIN based on my personal preferences (if I didn’t watch some of the nominees or if I don’t have a favorite, I won’t give my opinion).

Without further ado, here we go!

Top10: Best Movies of 2020

Top10: Best Movies of 2020

2020 is undoubtedly one of the worst years ever for cinema. The global pandemic negatively impacted films worldwide, and the "home viewing vs. theater experience" discourse never got so many people actually debating it. Nevertheless, this year still offered us plenty of great movies. It's just a matter of knowing where to look and giving a chance for a not-that-captivating premise to blow you away. Obviously, blockbusters and/or franchise-related installments are inevitably fewer than in previous years, but indie films surpassed all obstacles, managing to get to thousands of homes throughout the last twelve months.

92nd Academy Awards - Predictions

The 92nd Academy Awards are right around the corner, and it’s time to share my predictions! I’ve been very lucky in the last few years (except the last one, I’ll be honest), so let’s hope I get all of the categories right in 2020… Maybe not all, but I would love to score 19 at least.

I will share two types of predictions: one with the nominee that WILL WIN (also the one that counts to the ballot) and another with the nominee that SHOULD WIN based on my personal preferences (if I didn’t watch some of the nominees or if I don’t have a favorite, I won’t give my opinion). The categories are listed in the ceremony’s presentation order. I will keep an updated score of how many predictions I’m getting right, right before the list.

Top15: Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Top15: Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

2019 is ending, and 2020 is yet another year packed with highly-anticipated blockbusters, but also some first installments that promise great things. It doesn’t have the decade-spanning conclusions to massively beloved sagas like 2019, but 2020 surely has some fantastic flicks to start the new decade strong.

You will find below some of my most anticipated movies of the year, based on my expectations for each one, but also having in mind the emotional weight that each film carries from its saga’s predecessor if that’s the case. One little clarification: this is NOT an ordered list in terms of which movies I think will be the best. It’s just my Top15 of the films I’m most excited to watch during the following twelve months. Let’s dive in!

Top10: Best Movies of 2019

Top10: Best Movies of 2019

It's that time of the year to reflect on everything I've watched, and choose my absolute favorites. I've missed a lot of great movies in theaters, but they're on my watchlist, and I will eventually sit down to experience all of them. I will not write an article about the worst films of the year because firstly, I skipped a bunch of potential contenders, and secondly, I'm not too fond of diminishing people's work. Because movies are precisely that: the final product of months or even years of preparation and hard work from hundreds or thousands of people. Not just the actors or the director.

That said, let’s dive in!
